At Boxhub, we eliminate the hassle for you of calling various trucking companies to negotiate the best deal for pick-up and delivery of your container.
We have done this by outsourcing all deliveries to local third party service providers. The driver will cooperate with you for a safe delivery, but there are a few things you need to ensure beforehand.
Yes. Check out this YOUTUBE VIDEO of a recent delivery we did to Armonk, NY. Our customer required 2 x 40ft high cube containers for his house move and subsequently used them for storage at the families' new farm house.
We typically arrange delivery on either “tilt-bed” or “roll-off” trucks. If you have your own crane, we can also arrange delivery on flat-bed trucks which could potentially be a cheaper option.
If you have a special delivery requirements, we will likely be able to arrange e.g. a HIAB truck or other types of cranes. Reach out to us, if your site does not meet the requirements specified in our delivery guide.
The driver will call you in advance to make sure everything is ready for delivery, so please make sure you are available to be contacted on the delivery day.
The driver will meet you and inspect the delivery location prior to offloading the container. For safety reasons, it is the drivers responsibility to decide whether the site is safe and accessible for the delivery truck. When the driver has accepted the delivery site, he will proceed to offload the container within the 30 minutes allocated.
It is your responsibility that your site is safe for the truck driver to deliver to, including having enough space for the truck to maneuver.
In the case that the driver is not able to offload the container at your preferred delivery site, the driver will offload the container at the nearest possible spot. If you reject delivery at this point, we will refund you the purchase price (less a 10% re-stocking fee) and any shipping/trucking/survey/storage and banking fees already incurred.
The requirements are mostly common sense, but to avoid any issues, please make sure that you read below check list.
The main thing is to ensure that the truck has enough space to maneuver. As a rule of thumb, the driver requires the following space:
The delivery trucks are heavy and when loaded with a 40ft container they can get stuck if the surface is not solid.
The location where the container will be placed needs to be level and hard in order for the container to be placed properly.
It’s important when offloading the container that the weight can be evenly distributed to all four corner castings. If not, the door frame could potentially bend or even be damaged, leading to problems with opening and closing the doors properly. The recommended surface is concrete or asphalt.
We also recommend placing wood blocks, iron plates, or similar under the corners to support them and keep the container level.
Finally, make sure that the site is free of any obstacles that might damage the truck such as low-hanging tree branches, rocks and other items
Our trucking providers impose a 30 minute time cap to unload the container and complete the delivery after arriving at your site. Any additional time taken will be subject to an overtime fee as follows:
When the container is delivered, you need to make a quick inspection of the container before it is offloaded to ensure it complies with the condition you ordered. For “wind and watertight”, “cargo-worthy”, and “new” containers, we guarantee that the containers comply with the following upon delivery:
1. Check doors: These should be in good working condition. Try open/close them a few times to make sure that they work. It’s very important that the container is evenly placed, as otherwise the hinges or door gear might bend. If there is an issue, applying some oil or grease on the hinges often also solves it.
When you have verified that the container lives up to the ordered standard, no further action is required.
Procedure if requirements are not met
In the rare event that the driver concludes that it is unsafe to deliver the container to your proposed site, he will deliver to the nearest possible alternative delivery location. If no alternative delivery location can be agreed or if you choose to reject the delivery, we will return the container to the depot. In this case, we will refund you the purchase price (less a 10% re-stocking fee) and any shipping/trucking/survey/storage and banking fees already incurred.
99% of the time, the delivery runs smoothly without any issues. The drivers are highly experienced and have delivered many containers before to many different sites and locations.
If you have any doubts whatsoever regarding the suitability of your site or any questions about the delivery process in general, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are pleased to help and look forward to deliver your container safely.
