A shipping container is a large steel box manufactured and used for international shipping. They can transport everything from shoes to food, medicine to toys. You might be surprised to learn that most of the things surrounding you right now were transported by shipping containers. In fact, around 90-95% of the world’s goods are transported by shipping containers.
Shipping containers are also commonly referred to as "iso intermodal containers", “cargo containers”, "freight containers", "sea cans", "marine containers", “conex containers” or simply “boxes”.
Boxhub provides new and used shipping containers for sale in over 40 U.S. markets. Simply browse our 20ft shipping containers and 40ft shipping containers to see container pricing near you.
Not at all! Boxhub sells shipping containers for storage, moving houses, building modular homes, and much more (in addition to shipping). Because of their standardized sizing and availability, shipping containers are a cost-effective, secure, and durable alternative to traditional construction. They can be used for simple land storage (e.g., a garage or shed alternative) to more complex modular building projects (e.g., tiny homes, short-term rentals, home offices, gyms — even pools).
There are two ways in which you can buy a shipping container with Boxhub: online or through our sales team.

Our primary business is 20ft or 40ft shipping containers, which are the most common sizes used for international shipping. Both sizes are available in new and used condition.
New containers: In the container logistics industry, these are also known as “one-trips.” That’s because they’ve transported a single load of cargo across the ocean after being manufactured.
Used containers: Have been retired from international shipping after an average of 15-20 years at sea (sometimes longer). They’re guaranteed to be wind and watertight, with doors that seal properly and floors that are intact.
For a detailed breakdown of the different containers available, consult our container-buying guide.

An empty 20ft container weighs around 5,000 lbs and has a loading capacity of 62,000 lbs. An empty 40ft container weighs around 8,200 lbs and has a loading capacity of 63,000 lbs.
For a detailed breakdown of container dimensions and specs, consult our container buying guide.
What can’t you fit in a shipping container? 20ft containers have an internal capacity of 1,172 ft³. That’s the equivalent of 200 standard mattresses, two compact cars, or 9,600 wine bottles. 40ft containers have double the internal capacity (2,385 ft³). That’s the equivalent of 400 standard mattresses, four compact cars, or 19,200 wine bottles.

Shipping containers are made from COR-TEN steel, also known as weathering steel — a highly durable material used extensively in the transportation and storage industries. A shipping container’s weathering steel is resistant to corrosion — a necessity for enduring decades of navigating harsh sea environments.
Shipping containers also have corrugated steel sides, steel framing, and 1 1/8'' thick marine plywood floors, providing years of durability and security.
We offer a bulk discount of 5% off the total purchase value on all orders of 5 or more shipping containers. Additionally, we also offer a discount to all veterans on any container purchases.
Apart from these discounts, we sometimes run short-term, market-specific offers on our new 20ft shipping containers. If you want to know whether we are currently running any special deals for containers in your area, you can reach out to a member of the team. We will be happy to assist you and provide you with the necessary information.
