Shipping containers are classified as special construction projects under Section 3115 of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC). As a result, some shipping containers are not eligible for modular building projects. This includes containers that no longer have their data plates, which contain all of the information required under ISO 6346.

We do not recommend using heavily used shipping containers, such as boxes in “wind & watertight” condition, for modular building projects.

As with any construction project, you must always consult local building regulations before starting your modular build.
